Ghana police arrest woman for allegedly burying grandchild alive

Ghanaian police have arrested a woman in her late 40s, identified as Akua Abrokwaa, over the alleged burial of her newborn grandchild at Akrofoso-Koforidua in Ghana’s Eastern Region, according to SaharaReporters, citing a GhanaWeb report.

Assembly Member Quaino Dadzie said residents grew suspicious after the baby’s birth and disappearance, prompting him to question the suspect, who initially denied her daughter had given birth before later admitting it. Police reportedly led her to the burial site, where the decomposing body was exhumed. Authorities are investigating whether the infant was alive at burial and examining any other parties’ involvement.
