Gloria Steinem, women’s liberation icon and journalist, dead at 92
Feminist icon and journalist Gloria Steinem has died at 92, according to an ABC News report citing an official social media announcement. Steinem passed away peacefully at her New York home, surrounded by loved ones, the post said.
Born in Toledo, Ohio, in 1934, she rose to prominence in the modern feminist movement, co-founding “Ms.” magazine and the National Women’s Political Caucus in 1971. She gained national attention in 1963 for exposing working conditions at Hugh Hefner’s Playboy Club. Steinem continued advocating for equality until her final years, spending recent time writing and in community with others.
