Nigerian police disburse N2.3bn benefits to families of 2,971 deceased officers
The Nigeria Police Force has paid N2.317 billion in insurance and welfare benefits to 2,971 beneficiaries and next-of-kin of deceased officers, according to a Punch report. Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu presented the cheques on Thursday in Abuja, covering insurance policy years from 2017 to 2025.
He recalled officers killed at Buni-Yadi, Yobe State, and in Zamfara and Kebbi states, describing the payments as institutional responsibility owed to their families. Disu urged beneficiaries to use funds judiciously for education and welfare, while pledging continued improvements to police welfare, healthcare and working conditions.
