Haaland one goal away from breaking two of Messi’s Champions League records
Erling Haaland is one goal away from breaking two of Lionel Messi’s Champions League records after his brace helped Manchester City beat Porto 2-0. According to Planet Football, Haaland has now scored 59 goals in 59 Champions League appearances, matching Andriy Shevchenko’s career tally.
The Norwegian can surpass Messi’s record for reaching 60 goals in the fewest games, having needed 59 matches compared with Messi’s 80. Haaland also has an opportunity to become the youngest player to reach the milestone.
He will face Paris Saint-Germain on October 14 aged 26 years and 85 days, one day younger than Messi was when he scored his 60th goal. Haaland already holds the fastest records to 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 goals.
