UEFA Champions League pays tribute to Nepal flood victims
The UEFA Champions League has paid tribute to victims of the devastating floods that struck Nepal, with moments of silence and solidarity banners planned across all 18 matches of the opening gameweek. According to The Kathmandu Post, players and supporters at six opening fixtures stood behind banners carrying the message, “You are not alone Nepal.”
The floods, which hit the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli river basins on August 26, have left hundreds dead and thousands missing. UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin expressed condolences and wished Nepal strength during its recovery.
Tributes will continue throughout the opening week, including matches involving Barcelona, Arsenal, Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United. Arsenal have also joined relief efforts through the Arsenal Foundation and Save the Children to support communities affected by the disaster.
