Humanoids smash Usain Bolt’s record, set new marks at Beijing Robot Games

A headless humanoid robot named Tiangong Ultra broke Usain Bolt’s 100-metre world record at the World Robot Games in Beijing, Channels Television reports.

The robot completed the sprint in 9.39 seconds, surpassing Bolt’s 9.58-second record set in 2009. The same model later shattered the 400-metre world record, finishing in 38.15 seconds. Dozens of humanoids competed in athletics, boxing, football, and martial arts before cheering crowds, with several robots stumbling or collapsing mid-race.

Spectators, including 72-year-old Hou Yali, said the event showcased speed rather than true intelligence, expressing hope robots could eventually assist with household tasks.
