Welsh court jails Nigerian man 12 years for raping woman, sexually assaulting another while on bail

A 30-year-old man, Olukanyinsola Odebode, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison by Swansea Crown Court after being convicted of raping one woman and sexually assaulting another while he was on bail in Wales — with the judge imposing an extended sentence due to the serious risk he poses to the public.

As reported by Sahara Reporters, the offences occurred between June 2024 and September 2025. Odebode first assaulted and raped a woman in the Gwent Police area before being arrested and released on bail, then sexually assaulted a second woman in the Dyfed-Powys area.

Prosecutor Mark Wyeth KC described him as a danger to women whose actions caused life-changing consequences. A Probation Service report said Odebode showed little understanding of his offending and rejected the jury’s verdict, concluding he posed a high risk linked to attitudes of entitlement. Seven other women had previously reported concerns about his sexual behaviour to police since 2019.

Odebode received nine years in custody plus three years on licence and will remain on the sex offenders’ register for life.
