Israel FA hits back at Ireland boss Heimir Hallgrímsson over ‘genocide’ comments

The Israel Football Association has accused Republic of Ireland manager Heimir Hallgrímsson of “hypocrisy and stupidity” following his comments about their upcoming Nations League fixture. According to ESPN, Hallgrímsson said several Ireland players were uncomfortable facing Israel, adding that they were “playing against genocide.”

The Israel FA responded angrily, criticising the Ireland coach in a social media statement. Meanwhile, more than 160 Irish sportspeople have signed an open letter urging the FAI to reconsider the fixtures. The FAI has confirmed both matches will proceed, despite protests and concerns surrounding the games.
