A British-based non-league goalkeeper, George Kamurasi, has been selected as the next king of the Tooro people in Uganda, according to a report by Vanguard News. Kamurasi, 36, who plays in the ninth tier of English football, was chosen to succeed his late cousin, King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, who died of cancer.

Popularly known as “Big G,” Kamurasi captains SE Dons in the Southern Counties East League Premier Division in southeast London. However, he is reportedly reluctant to leave London, where he lives with his wife and son. His selection has sparked mixed reactions in Uganda, with some questioning whether someone raised in Britain can represent the Tooro people.

King Oyo’s funeral is scheduled this weekend, though Kamurasi could miss it due to a clashing cup fixture with his club.
