Manchester United player ratings vs City: 8/10 Mainoo not enough as 4/10 Dalot struggle
Manchester United were beaten by Manchester City at Old Trafford despite City playing with 10 men for much of the derby.
Erling Haaland grabbed the only goal with a second-half strike in the 199th Manchester derby to condemn Michael Carrick’s side to their second defeat of the season. Here is how the United players performed in a frustrating defeat.
Man United Player Ratings
Senne Lammens – 7/10
Made a crucial save to deny Enzo Fernandez and was not overly troubled otherwise. Had little chance with Haaland’s finish.
Patrick Dorgu – 6/10
Worked hard at left-back and handled his defensive duties reasonably well, although his attempted block played a part in City’s opening goal.
Lisandro Martinez – 7/10
Composed in defence and recovered well after Haaland threatened. His challenge on the City striker prevented a dangerous situation from developing.
Harry Maguire – 6/10
Produced a solid display at centre-back and nearly levelled with a late header. His needless push on Fernandez earned him a booking.
Diogo Dalot – 4/10
Struggled to make an impact and missed opportunities to threaten. His failure to control Fernandes’ pass denied him a rare scoring chance.
Kobbie Mainoo – 8/10
United’s standout midfielder. Confident and composed throughout, Mainoo repeatedly competed well in midfield and came close to putting United ahead.
Youri Tielemans – 7/10
Delivered arguably his best performance of the campaign, showing good control and energy, though he still lacked the decisive contribution United needed.
Marcus Rashford – 6/10
Went close with a superb free-kick that struck the post but otherwise remained without the goal he has been searching for since returning.
Bruno Fernandes – 6/10
Had an eventful afternoon and was involved in the incident that saw Foden dismissed. However, his overall performance fell below his usual standards.
Bryan Mbeumo – 7/10
One of United’s biggest attacking threats. Went close with a header and forced a brilliant late save from Donnarumma.
Matheus Cunha – 7/10
Worked hard and regularly found space, although his tendency to drop deep reduced his threat around the City penalty area.
Substitutes
Benjamin Šeško – 6/10
Introduced to provide greater attacking threat but struggled to influence proceedings, with a long-range attempt his clearest contribution.
Joshua Zirkzee – 6/10
Came on late and had limited time to change the contest as United searched unsuccessfully for an equaliser.
