Maradona’s ‘Hand of God’ ball sells for £2.5m at auction

Diego Maradona’s famous ‘Hand of God’ football has been sold for £2.5m at auction, almost 40 years after it was used in Argentina’s iconic 1986 World Cup victory over England according to the BBC SPORT. The Adidas Azteca ball was collected by Tunisian referee Ali Bin Nasser after the quarter-final, in which Maradona controversially punched the ball past Peter Shilton before scoring his celebrated ‘goal of the century’. Heritage Auctions sold the ball for $3.3m, below its expected £7.3m valuation. Bin Nasser previously sold it for £1.74m in 2022.
