Military chief assures veterans of pension adjustment after protest
Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Olufemi Oluyede has assured military retirees of consequential pension increases tied to salary adjustments for serving personnel, according to Punch Newspapers. Oluyede spoke in Yola, Adamawa State, during an engagement with North-East veterans, a day after retirees protested at the Ministry of Defence in Abuja over delayed pension adjustments.
The protest was suspended after Defence Minister Gen. Christopher Musa pledged to address the demands. Oluyede said the salary review, effective September, was all-inclusive, and cited welfare initiatives including low-interest loans through the Bank of Industry and reserved slots at the new Defence Hospital for veterans.
