NAFDAC pushes for death penalty, life imprisonment for counterfeit product dealers
NAFDAC Director-General, Professor Mojisola Adeyeye, has called for life imprisonment or the death penalty for individuals involved in producing and distributing fake regulated products, describing them as “merchants of death,” according to THISDAY.
Adeyeye said the agency mopped up 7,210 fake products nationwide between May and July 2026, visiting 5,738 facilities. She disclosed that 64 counterfeiters had been convicted, with sentences of up to seven years without an option of fine, including cases involving counterfeit Colgate, Oral-B and CWay products.
Adeyeye also dismissed resignation calls, citing reforms achieved since 2017, and urged Nigerians to report suspected fake products through official NAFDAC channels instead of social media.
