NCC moves SIM-enabled phone registration deadline to October
The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has extended the deadline for registering SIM-enabled mobile phones and other communications devices on its newly introduced Device Management System, according to YEN.com.gh.
The original September 7 cut-off for onboarding existing stock has been moved to October 6, 2026, following complaints from manufacturers, importers, dealers and vendors who struggled to complete registration on the commission’s web portal. Internal communications indicated several industry players could not finalise registration due to missing licences or certifications. The NCC urged unlicensed operators to begin regularisation immediately.
Stakeholders, including the Association of Mobile Communication Device Technicians of Nigeria, have called for a phased rollout, citing cost concerns and system reliability issues witnessed during a live demonstration.
