Okowa’s APC switch was cover from EFCC probe – Akpabio
Senate President Godswill Akpabio has said Delta State governor Ifeanyi Okowa joined the All Progressives Congress because of concerns over his corruption cases.
According to Peoples Gazette, Akpabio made the claim in a leaked audio conversation with Sandra Duru, saying Okowa’s move was driven by fears surrounding his cases rather than sincerity.
Akpabio also claimed he helped Okowa secure the APC senatorial ticket for Delta North ahead of the 2027 elections.
Okowa, who was Atiku Abubakar’s running mate in 2023, previously said his defection was intended to connect Delta State with federal government.
The EFCC had investigated Okowa over alleged N1.3 trillion oil derivation fraud. The agency says the investigation remains ongoing and justice will be served in due course.
