Osinbajo urges lawyers to redesign judiciary around citizens at NBA conference

Former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has urged lawyers to redesign Nigeria’s judiciary around citizens’ needs, calling for a people-centred approach to justice reform. According to Tribune Online, Osinbajo, represented by former Lagos Attorney-General Ade Ipaye, spoke at the 66th NBA Annual General Conference in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.

He called for data-driven reform strategies, prioritising pre-trial detention, small claims courts and legal aid, and urged the Nigerian Bar Association to champion pro bono work as a national legal aid mechanism. Osinbajo stressed justice should be treated as “a living public good,” embedded in institutions rather than left to government alone.
