Real reason we can’t strike despite locating kidnapped NYSC members – Police
The Imo State Police Command says it has identified the location where about 19 prospective National Youth Service Corps members abducted in the state are being held.
Premium Times reported that the prospective corps members were abducted by gunmen at about 6:30 a.m. on Thursday along the Owerri-Onitsha Road by Umunoha, while travelling from Ibadan, Oyo State, to orientation camps in Abia and Akwa Ibom states.
The police said 10 victims were rescued at the scene after security agencies intervened, while efforts were made to determine the number still in captivity.
Imo State Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma Bosso, said drones deployed on Friday helped security operatives locate the suspected kidnappers’ camp after they were trailed into the bush.
“But our predicament is that with the intel we have, the camp is mined with IEDs,” he said.
“We are moving in there with high-velocity vehicles, that is, bulldozers; we’re moving in with bulldozers and armoured personnel carriers (APCs) to see how we’re going to rescue these victims unhurt,” he stated.
No group has claimed responsibility.
