Samuel Eto’o backs Gianni Infantino amid growing FIFA backlash
Samuel Eto’o has thrown his support behind Gianni Infantino as the FIFA president faces growing opposition from prominent figures across football. According to The Athletic, Eto’o defended Infantino’s leadership and called for the FIFA Forward Enterprise proposal to be reconsidered if the Swiss administrator wins another term.
The former Cameroon international argued that the plan deserved proper debate among FIFA’s 211 member associations rather than being rejected outright. Eto’o also praised Infantino for expanding global tournaments and increasing opportunities for developing football nations. His backing comes as UEFA, CONCACAF and AFC figures have criticised Infantino, while former players including Mikael Silvestre, Emmanuel Petit and Lucy Bronze have called for change within FIFA.
