Sanwo-Olu hits the runway at Lagos Fashion Week
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Saturday walked the runway at the 2026 Lagos Fashion Week, showcasing a collection by Nigerian designer Ugo Monye, Gazette NGR reports.
Sanwo-Olu joined professional models on the runway at the Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, drawing cheers from the audience as he took part in the designer’s presentation. In a post on Instagram, the governor said he had a great time and described Lagos as a growing hub for fashion, creativity and culture. “Lagos continues to grow as a home for fashion, creativity and culture, and I am always happy to support the people driving this growth,” he wrote, adding that he was proud of creatives who “continue to push boundaries and put Lagos firmly on the global fashion stage.”
It was not the governor’s first turn on the runway at the event. He made his debut in October 2023, when he closed designer Emmy Kasbit’s presentation, making this his second documented appearance since he assumed office in 2019.
Lagos Fashion Week was founded in 2011 by Omoyemi Akerele to promote Nigerian and African fashion by connecting designers with buyers, retailers, investors and media. The 2026 edition, themed “CRAFTED: Heritage. Innovation. Circular Futures.”, ran from October 28 to November 1, giving emerging and established designers a platform to showcase their collections and connect with the global fashion market.
With the 2026 edition now closed, the governor’s runway appearance stands as one of its most talked-about moments.
