Senegal name former Arsenal star Patrick Vieira as new Head Coach
Senegal have appointed former Arsenal midfielder Patrick Vieira as their new head coach, marking his return to management after nearly a year out of the game. According to The Athletic, Vieira takes charge following the dismissal of Pape Thiaw after Senegal’s World Cup exit in July.
Born in Dakar, Vieira has previously managed Crystal Palace, Strasbourg and Genoa, leaving the Italian club in November 2025 after a difficult start to the Serie A season. The 50-year-old enjoyed a decorated playing career, winning three Premier League titles with Arsenal and the 1998 World Cup with France. His first task will be to rebuild Senegal’s squad and restore stability.
