Serena, Venus Williams blow 5-0 lead, crash out of US Open doubles

Serena and Venus Williams are out of the US Open women’s doubles after blowing a 5-0 lead in a 10-point match tiebreaker and losing 6-3, 6-7 (6), 7-6 (10-7) to Hao-Ching Chan and Maya Joint on Friday night, according to a report by ESPN.

It marked the sisters’ first US Open match since 2022 at the Grand Slam tournament they have won twice together. They fought back from 4-1 down in the third set to force the tiebreaker but faltered late.

It was only the second major doubles match in which the Williams sisters played a deciding-set tiebreak, the first coming at the 2009 French Open. Serena, 44, returned to tennis this year, while Venus, 46, has continued playing on tour.
