Simon Ekpa challenges six-year terrorism sentence in Finland
Simon Ekpa, the pro-Biafra separatist campaigner, has appealed his six-year prison sentence for terrorism-related offences in Finland, according to a Vanguard report citing BBC Pidgin. The Finnish prosecutor has also appealed, seeking a longer term. The Court of Appeal is expected to hear the case within three weeks.
Ekpa, arrested in November 2024, was convicted in September 2025 for inciting terrorism and participating in a terrorist group’s activities, after the court found he supplied weapons and incited followers online. He was also convicted of aggravated tax fraud. Nigeria’s government designated him a “terrorism financier” in March 2025.
