South Africa: Foreign national beaten to death over ‘lamb theft’

Police in South Africa have arrested 10 foreign nationals and two South Africans over the alleged mob killing of a foreign shepherd accused of stealing a lamb in the Free State.

According to SaharaReporters, the 12 suspects, aged between 24 and 59, were charged with murder after the victim was found dead at Mashaeng Commonage near Fouriesburg.

Police said the man suffered multiple bruises and eye injuries. Investigators later arrested 11 additional suspects after an initial suspect was allegedly found with the deceased’s phone.

The suspects are expected in court on September 7. Police condemned mob justice and urged residents to report suspected crimes.
