U.S. condemns Cofnas’ suspension over plagiarism allegation against Arday
The United States has condemned Ghent University’s suspension of academic Nathan Cofnas over plagiarism allegations he made against the late Cambridge professor Jason Arday, according to Peoples Gazette.
U.S. Ambassador to Belgium Bill White said the move amounted to “retaliation” against a whistleblower and confirmed Washington was reviewing its relationship with the institution. Cofnas said he was suspended Thursday and was being investigated for alleged discrimination against Arday.
Ghent University said it takes the matter seriously and emphasised its stance against discrimination and hatred, while affirming its commitment to academic freedom within limits of responsibility.
