U.S. sanctions on ICC officials involved in Netanyahu war crimes probe

Share:

The United States has sanctioned International Criminal Court President Tomoko Akane and senior trial lawyer Abdoulaye Seye amid tensions over investigations involving Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

According to SaharaReporters, Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced the measures Tuesday, accusing the ICC of threatening American sovereignty.

The sanctions block targeted U.S.-based assets and generally prohibit Americans from conducting transactions with them.

Washington has strongly opposed ICC proceedings involving American and Israeli officials. The confrontation intensified after the court issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and former Israeli defence minister Yoav Gallant over alleged crimes connected to Gaza.
