Ukraine considers legalising porn industry to fund war effort

Ukraine is considering legalising its porn industry as lawmakers seek new sources of revenue to support the country’s war effort against Russia.

According to The Wall Street Journal, lawmakers estimate that taxing the country’s thousands of adult-content creators could generate about $25 million annually.

Pornography production is currently illegal in Ukraine, despite many creators operating on platforms such as OnlyFans. The legal uncertainty has reportedly exposed creators to raids, prosecution and alleged exploitation.

Lawmakers backing the proposal say legalisation would bring the industry into the formal economy, reduce corruption and generate tax revenue. The bill has passed its first parliamentary reading and could provide funds equivalent to thousands of drones for Ukraine’s war effort.
