US billionaire Leon Black defies summons in Epstein probe, sues Congress
US billionaire Leon Black has defied congressional subpoenas seeking his testimony in the Jeffrey Epstein investigation and filed a lawsuit challenging the summonses.
According to the BBC, Black failed to appear before the House Oversight Committee on Thursday, arguing in federal court that its subpoenas were invalid and lacked legitimate legislative purpose.
The committee sought Black’s nondisclosure agreements and an on-camera deposition after he walked out of voluntary testimony in June.
Black, who denies wrongdoing involving Epstein, previously said he paid the late financier $158 million for wealth management advice.
Committee member Robert Garcia called for Black to be held in contempt of Congress immediately.
