US judge again blocks Trump’s order restricting birthright citizenship

A US federal judge has temporarily blocked President Donald Trump’s latest attempt to restrict birthright citizenship, according to a report by TheCable. This follows the Supreme Court’s June ruling striking down Trump’s earlier executive order in a 6-3 decision affirming automatic citizenship for children born in America. Trump’s new orders target children of international legal workers, “alien enemies,” and “birth tourism” cases.

District Judge Deborah Boardman issued a preliminary injunction on Wednesday, stating the directive is “almost certainly unconstitutional” and would remain blocked pending the immigrant advocacy groups’ lawsuit. The Trump administration is expected to appeal. Boardman had similarly blocked an earlier version of the order in February 2025.
