US star Russell breaks Amusan’s world record
American Olympic champion Masai Russell has broken Tobi Amusan’s world record in the women’s 100m hurdles, ending the Nigerian’s four-year reign, according to a report by PUNCH Newspapers.
Russell clocked 12.09 seconds at the Zurich Diamond League on Thursday, shaving three hundredths off Amusan’s previous record of 12.12 seconds, with Amusan finishing second in 12.23 seconds.
Amusan had set the record at the 2022 World Championships in Eugene, though her faster 12.06-second final time was voided due to excessive tailwind. Russell had earlier hinted at the feat, running 12.14 seconds in Xiamen in May.
