Yekini Idiaye emerges as new speaker of Edo Assembly

Share:

The Edo State House of Assembly has elected Yekini Idiaye, representing Akoko-Edo Constituency I, as its new Speaker following Blessing Agbebaku’s resignation. According to The ICIR, Idiaye emerged during Monday’s plenary in line with the House’s zoning arrangement favouring Edo North.

His nomination was moved by Sunday Ojiezele and seconded by Eric Okaka, after which the Clerk administered his oath. Idiaye accused Agbebaku of poor leadership and corruption, citing prolonged adjournments, and immediately ordered the indefinite suspension of Agbebaku and former Majority Leader, Jonathan Wawu.
