Yobe APC Chairman tells women to divorce husbands who block them from voting APC

Yobe State APC Chairman Muhammad Gadaka has sparked controversy after urging women to divorce husbands who prevent them from voting for the party, promising to pay their dowries himself, according to a Tribune Online report.

Gadaka made the remark on Thursday at an APC rally in Nangere, drawing backlash from residents and Islamic scholars who called it reckless.

He later apologised and withdrew the statement, insisting it was a joke not meant to encourage divorce.

The incident follows similar criticism of a Borno commissioner who threatened to flog non-APC supporters ahead of 2027.
