Lagos arrests 27 as scavengers strip Festac-Alakija Bridge of iron rods, steel reinforcements
The Lagos State Government has arrested 27 suspected hoodlums caught vandalising the newly constructed bridge linking Festac Town to Alakija, stripping the structure of iron rods, steel reinforcements, cables and other critical structural materials.
The Cable reports that Environment Commissioner Tokunbo Wahab confirmed the arrests in an X post on Friday, saying a joint midnight operation by the Rapid Response Squad and Kick Against Indiscipline task force uncovered extensive vandalism beneath the bridge during enforcement operations along the Lagos-Badagry transnational highway.
“The vandalism poses a threat to public safety and undermines investments in public infrastructure,” Wahab said, adding that all 27 suspects would face prosecution under Lagos State laws. The state reaffirmed its commitment to sustained enforcement operations against infrastructure vandalism across the state.
