Real reasons we planned to overthrow Tinubu – Colonel Ma’aji
Nigerian Army Colonel Mohammed Ma’aji has disclosed that worsening insecurity, corruption, economic hardship and dissatisfaction with President Tinubu’s fuel subsidy removal, exchange-rate reforms and electricity tariffs were the primary motivations behind an alleged coup plot against the administration, according to Daily Post.
Ma’aji stated that discussions about military intervention began in 2023 during the final months of former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, when “corruption and nepotism became the order of the day.”
The Colonel also revealed that the plot was revived after he failed twice to secure promotion to Brigadier General in 2024, though he maintained that the promotion failure was not the principal motivation — citing shared patriotism among participating officers.
