Jeff Bezos closes in on one-third Liverpool stake
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is closing in on a deal to acquire a roughly one-third stake in Liverpool, according to Sky News. The investment is being led by Amit Bhatia, son-in-law of billionaire Lakshmi Mittal, with Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin also involved. The proposed transaction could value Liverpool at around £4.4 billion, potentially making it one of football’s biggest investments.
Fenway Sports Group, which has controlled Liverpool since 2010 after purchasing the club for £300 million, is preparing to announce the deal. Bezos, whose fortune exceeds £200 billion, would become a minority investor if completed.
