Bandits overpower police checkpoint, kill 10 officers, two civilians in Kebbi
Ten police officers, two civilians and 17 bandits were killed on Monday when security personnel engaged an estimated 240 heavily armed men travelling on over 200 motorcycles from Zamfara State into Kebbi State along the Rafin Makuku axis of Sakaba Local Government Area.
Daily Trust reports that Kebbi State Police spokesperson DSP Bashir Usman confirmed the casualties, saying the bandits overpowered a mobile police checkpoint while attempting to enter the community, killing officers and seizing their rifles.
“We lost 10 gallant police personnel in the engagement,” Usman said, adding that four bandits’ motorcycles were burnt and follow-up operations against fleeing elements were ongoing. Two officers sustained injuries and are receiving medical attention.
