Katsina United player declared dead twice found alive in mortuary
Dramatic scenes have unfolded in Katsina after 18-year-old Katsina United defender Ozor Chinedu, pronounced dead after collapsing during a pre-season friendly, was discovered showing signs of life by mortuary staff at Katsina General Hospital — prompting his immediate transfer to the Intensive Care Unit.
As reported by Daily Trust, Chinedu collapsed during the Gusau/Ahlan Pre-season Cup match against Niger Tornadoes at Muhammadu Dikko Stadium on Tuesday. Doctors at K-Dara Specialist Hospital reportedly pronounced him dead, prompting Katsina United to issue a condolence statement while clubs including Heartland FC and Kano Pillars mourned on social media.
Katsina United media officer Nasir Gide confirmed the player had been declared dead twice before mortuary staff observed movement in his body. Chinedu remains in critical condition on oxygen as of Wednesday morning. The football community has been urged to pray for his recovery.
