UEFA prepares criminal action against FIFA president Gianni Infantino
UEFA is preparing potential criminal proceedings against FIFA president Gianni Infantino over his controversial plan to sell stakes in the organisation’s major competitions to private investors, according to BBC Sport. Documents reportedly show UEFA has applied for access to evidence that could support proceedings in Switzerland, accusing Infantino of “criminal mismanagement” over the now-abandoned FIFA Forward Enterprise proposal.
UEFA is also considering action against other FIFA officials and advisers linked to the scheme. The plan, which involved private investment in FIFA tournaments, including the World Cup, was withdrawn following widespread opposition. UEFA has since intensified calls for changes to FIFA’s governance and limits on presidential authority.
