OpenAI launches GPT-6 Astra, an AI that operates computers
OpenAI has unveiled GPT-6 Astra, a new AI model capable of operating computers and executing complex tasks, marking a major step toward autonomous AI, according to a report by Vanguard. The unveiling comes amid intensifying rivalry with Anthropic, driving rapid industry advances. A demonstration showed Astra performing tasks like 3D modelling in Blender, drafting agreements, and building computer games.
CEO Sam Altman urged users to test the model with harder assignments, though OpenAI has restricted some cybersecurity capabilities over misuse concerns. The launch has also reignited debate on children’s AI exposure, with New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani announcing a one-year moratorium on generative AI for K-8 students, citing the need for human connection in learning.
