Samsung got Tim Cook to star in a Galaxy Z Fold 8 ad—sort of
Samsung has released a new advertisement for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 starring a man named Tim Cook, poking fun at Apple’s recently unveiled foldable iPhone, according to a report by Android Authority.
The clip, released by Samsung’s New Zealand branch, features a property agent from Palmerston North who happens to be named Tim Cook and bears a resemblance to Apple’s CEO, delivering the line, “Best phone I’ve ever had. You can quote me. Tim Cook from Palmerston North,” according to the report.
The ad’s timing follows Apple’s official announcement of the iPhone Duo, its first foldable device, which Android Authority noted shares a similar wide, passport-like design to the Galaxy Z Fold 8. Samsung has leaned into the coincidence, titling the video “Tim Cook has an announcement. And for once, it’s about Galaxy.”
The stunt is part of a broader marketing push, with Samsung having already released a separate ad dubbing the Galaxy Z Fold 8 “the world’s lightest fold” just hours ahead of Apple’s foldable reveal, per Android Authority. Samsung has a long history of publicly ribbing Apple, dating back to marketing campaigns from as early as 2011.
