Vance says “there’s a chance” he won’t run in 2028 despite poll lead
Vice President JD Vance has said there is a possibility he will not seek the 2028 Republican presidential nomination, even as he leads early polls.
Speaking at a CBS News town hall in Flat Rock, Michigan, on Saturday, Vance said family considerations could affect his decision, according to Newsmax.
“Of course there’s a chance,” Vance said when asked whether he might sit out the race.
“We’ve got four little kids, my wife has never loved politics. She loves public service.”
The RealClearPolling average puts Vance at 39%, 15 points ahead of Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Donald Trump Jr. is third with 11%. President Donald Trump has called Vance his “most likely” successor.
Vance told anchor Tony Dokoupil he tends to put off big decisions.
“The way that I think about life, big life decisions — my wife will tell you this: I’m a procrastinator. I hate thinking about it,” he said.
He said he and Usha Vance will discuss their future after the Nov. 3 midterms.
“Whenever it comes up, it’s always let’s figure it out after the midterms,” Vance said.
His immediate priority, he said, is helping Republicans keep control of Congress.
“We’re really not” discussing 2028, he said. “Anything could happen, man.”
