Man Utd unconvinced by Carrick replacements as under-fire Coach gets reprieve
Manchester United have reportedly decided to retain Michael Carrick for their upcoming Premier League clash against Chelsea, with club chiefs unconvinced by the available candidates to replace him.
According to the Daily Mirror, United’s key stakeholders held lengthy discussions on Monday following the club’s disappointing 3-0 home defeat to Bournemouth. Eddie Howe, Julian Nagelsmann and Antonio Conte have emerged as potential successors, although the club has not made a formal approach for Conte.
Sporting director Jason Wilcox reportedly favours Howe, while recruitment chief Christopher Vivell is backing Nagelsmann. However, uncertainty over the available options has complicated United’s managerial decision, with one source quoted by The Sun as saying: “The best ones won’t come.”
Carrick has come under mounting pressure after United went eight matches in all competitions without a victory, leaving them 16th in the Premier League, just one point above the relegation zone. Despite the growing concerns, the former midfielder has been given another opportunity to turn around the club’s struggling campaign.
