Arsenal to appeal Max Dowman’s red card after shock Fleetwood defeat
Arsenal are set to appeal the red card shown to teenage midfielder Max Dowman during their shock Carabao Cup defeat to Fleetwood Town, according to GOAL. The 16-year-old was sent off in the 85th minute of Tuesday’s fourth-round tie following an altercation with Fleetwood midfielder Harrison Neal, leaving Mikel Arteta frustrated as the Gunners eventually lost on penalties.
Dowman faces a potential three-match suspension for violent conduct, but Arsenal are hopeful the Football Association will overturn the decision. Arteta had expressed disappointment with his player’s actions, saying: ‘When we prepared the context of the match, we were very clear on the things to respect, the things that emotionally we have to dominate. It was very clear,’ Arteta said.
The dismissal comes amid Arsenal’s injury concerns in wide areas, with Bukayo Saka, Christos Tzolis and Noni Madueke reportedly sidelined. Arsenal must now turn their attention to Sunday’s Premier League trip to Liverpool as they seek to recover from their cup disappointment.
