Tinubu reacts to FBI’s commendation of EFCC over arrest of internet fraudsters
President Bola Tinubu has affirmed that Nigeria will not become a safe haven for internet fraudsters, commending the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) following praise from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
According to reports, FBI Director Kash Patel sent a letter of commendation to EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede recognizing the agency’s vital role in Operation Artemis, a joint investigation targeting international child sexual exploitation and extortion. The operation led to the August 2026 arrest and extradition of two Nigerian suspects, Adebola Festus Adekunle and Mudasiru Afeez Olawale.
Reacting to the commendation, President Tinubu pledged full support for law enforcement agencies pursuing criminal networks.
”This is the kind of institutional performance we are determined to build across our country. I commend the EFCC Chairman and his team for their professionalism and dedication,” Tinubu said. “Nigeria must never become a haven for criminals who exploit innocent people, whether at home or abroad. Our law enforcement and anti-corruption institutions have my full support to pursue offenders and bring them to justice in accordance with the law.”
