Man Utd Player Ratings: Carrick misery continues as Martinez gets 2/10 in Chelsea loss
Misery Continues for Red Devils in West LondonManchester United slipped to their seventh defeat in 13 fixtures this season, suffering a 2-0 loss against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge after a wasteful performance and a second-half red card.
The Red Devils showed promising intent during an energetic opening period, fashioning several clear-cut opportunities. However, a total lack of composure inside the penalty box proved costly, with Matheus Cunha seeing an effort disallowed and multiple chances going begging before the interval.
The game turned completely against United after the break. Morgan Rogers opened the scoring for the host side with a brilliant strike after possession was turned over around midfield.
Things went from bad to worse shortly after when Lisandro Martinez committed a reckless foul inside the area, earning a straight red card and conceding a penalty that Cole Palmer converted to seal United’s fate.
Manchester United Player ratings
Senne Lammens — 4/10 Looked shaky early on when he spilled a shot directly into Estevao’s path, though he was spared by the offside flag. Little he could do to stop either second-half goal.
Leny Yoro — 4/10 Started with far more composure than in recent outings, but his influence faded dramatically once Chelsea grabbed control of the contest after the opening goal.
Harry Maguire — 5/10 Turned too easily right before the half-time whistle, but otherwise put in a resolute shift. Won the initial header for Cunha’s ruled-out goal and battled hard when United were reduced to 10 men.
Lisandro Martinez — 2/10 Delivered sharp line-breaking passes to set up early attacks, but completely ruined his afternoon with a rash challenge inside the box that resulted in a penalty and a red card, effectively killing off any chance of a comeback.
Diogo Dalot — 4/10 Combined well down the left flank alongside Cunha during a promising opening spell, but regressed as Chelsea took control of the match.
Andrey Santos — 4/10 Showed no hesitation playing against his former club and nearly scored with a curling effort, but was caught out in the buildup to Chelsea’s opening goal.
Carlos Baleba — 4/10 Recovered well after misplacing his very first pass to win a succession of midfield battles, but failed to track the initial break that led to Chelsea’s opener.
Bruno Fernandes — 3/10 Looked well off his best pace. Hesitated on the ball, surrendered possession repeatedly, and blazed a golden opportunity over the crossbar following a crisp counter-attack.
Amad — 4/10 Worked tirelessly with aggressive high pressing to create space early on, but wasted four good opportunities in the first half alone, clearly showing a lack of confidence in front of goal.
Bryan Mbeumo — 4/10 Heavily involved in United’s attacking build-ups, but turned the ball over on the halfway line, which directly initiated the sequence for Rogers’ goal.
Matheus Cunha — 4/10 Thought he had given United the lead when turning in Maguire’s knock-down from a corner. Showed great fight throughout the match and was visibly reluctant to be substituted late on.
Substitutes
Kobbie Mainoo — 5/10 Put in a steady, unexciting spell upon making his return from injury.
Mason Mount — 5/10 Brought energy and pressed hard after coming off the bench.
Ayden Heaven — 5/10 Showed plenty of physical fight in a tough situation down to 10 men.
Joshua Zirkzee — 5/10 Had minimal touches and failed to impact the game late on.
