Binance says 90% of assets stolen in $6.34bn breach now replenished
Cryptocurrency exchange Binance says it has replenished 90 per cent of the assets stolen in a major security breach, up from about 80 per cent in its previous update, Sahara Reporters reports. The company disclosed this in a security incident update published on Saturday, adding that it had set aside more than $6.34 billion in company funds to cover the losses.
Binance said it had fully covered the affected amounts in Bitcoin, Ethereum, Tether, BNB, Solana, USD Coin, XRP, USD1, RLUSD and Zcash. The outstanding 10 per cent consists of less liquid tokens outside that list, which may take longer to acquire, the company said. It will keep buying the remaining tokens through market and over-the-counter channels until all stolen assets are replenished.
Binance said it remained on course to restore withdrawals on Sunday, November 1, and would announce details once confirmed. It also took a fresh Proof of Reserves snapshot, with the full zero-knowledge proof expected by Tuesday, November 3.
