Liverpool Player Ratings vs Fenerbahce: Four players get 4/10 as Reds suffer Champions League defeat

Liverpool endured a frustrating night in Istanbul, surrendering their advantage twice before falling to a 3-2 defeat against Fenerbahce in Wednesday’s Champions League encounter. Trey Nyoni opened the scoring with his first Champions League goal, but a deflected Mason Greenwood free-kick brought the hosts level.

Alexander Isak restored Liverpool’s lead shortly after coming off the bench, only for Archie Brown to capitalise on a defensive mix-up between Alisson Becker and Cody Gakpo.

Vedat Muriqi then delivered the decisive blow with a late header, leaving Andoni Iraola’s side to reflect on another disappointing defensive display. Here is how the Liverpool players performed.

Liverpool Player Ratings vs Fenerbahce

Alisson Becker – 4/10

The Brazilian made several important saves but was partly responsible for Fenerbahce’s second goal after getting caught in no man’s land. He also failed to deal with Muriqi’s decisive header.

Joe Gomez – 6/10

Produced an excellent cross that deserved a better finish and was generally dependable defensively. However, his attacking contribution diminished before he was substituted.

Jeremy Jacquet – 4/10

Missed an early opportunity to score and turned away from Greenwood’s free-kick, allowing the ball to deflect into the net. He also struggled against Muriqi.

Virgil van Dijk – 5/10

Helped initiate the move for Nyoni’s opener but wasted a promising headed opportunity. The Liverpool captain struggled to organise his defence when Fenerbahce increased the pressure.

Kostas Tsimikas – 4/10

Was fortunate to escape punishment for a push on Greenwood inside the penalty area. Offered some attacking support but looked vulnerable defensively throughout the encounter.

Alexis Mac Allister – 5/10

Showed composure in possession and tested Ederson with a header. However, he struggled to impose himself physically as Fenerbahce gradually took control of midfield.

Trey Nyoni – 7/10

Delivered an impressive performance, opening the scoring with a composed volley that took a deflection. His movement and work rate also stood out.

Victor Munoz – 6/10

Showed willingness to take on defenders and drive Liverpool forward but lacked efficiency in the final third. His defensive decision-making also created problems.

Dominik Szoboszlai – 6/10

Produced some dangerous deliveries from the No. 10 position but struggled to influence proceedings consistently. Conceded the free-kick that led to Greenwood’s equaliser.

Rio Ngumoha – 6/10

Liverpool’s liveliest attacking player in the opening period, using his dribbling ability to trouble the hosts. However, he occasionally delayed releasing the ball.

Bradley Barcola – 4/10

Had an early opportunity but failed to make proper contact with the ball. Remained largely anonymous in a central attacking role that did not suit him.

Substitutes

Cody Gakpo – 6/10

Provided the cross that Isak converted for Liverpool’s second goal. However, his involvement in the defensive confusion that allowed Brown to equalise proved costly.

Alexander Isak – 7/10

Made an immediate impact after entering the game, scoring within three minutes to restore Liverpool’s advantage. His seventh goal of the season was another positive contribution.

Florian Wirtz – 6/10

Was introduced to provide creativity and attacking quality but struggled to make a meaningful difference as Liverpool lost control of the contest.

Milos Kerkez – 6/10

Came on to offer additional energy and defensive stability but could not prevent Fenerbahce from finding a late winner.

Lewis Koumas – N/A

Entered the game in the closing stages, replacing Nyoni, but had insufficient time to make a noticeable impact.
