Court sacks Uzodinma, declares Okorocha APC Imo West senatorial candidate
A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to replace Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma with former governor Rochas Okorocha as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Imo West Senatorial District in the 2027 general elections.
According to The Guardian, Justice Obiora Egwuatu delivered the ruling on Thursday, October 29, declaring that Uzodinma did not win the party’s senatorial primary held on May 18.
The judge ruled that evidence presented before the court established that Okorocha secured the highest number of votes during the primary election monitored by INEC.
Consequently, the court directed the electoral commission to remove Uzodinma’s name from its list of candidates and recognise Okorocha as the party’s legitimate flagbearer.
The court also ordered the APC to formally submit Okorocha’s name to INEC ahead of the 2027 elections.
The ruling represents a significant development in the contest for the APC’s Imo West senatorial ticket.
