Ramaswamy campaign engulfed by controversy over attack ad…
Ohio Republican governorship candidate Vivek Ramaswamy has faced criticism from Democrats and members of his own party over a controversial campaign advertisement featuring the estranged mother of his Democratic opponent, Amy Acton.
According to The Washington Post, the advertisement has sparked bipartisan objections as the candidates compete ahead of the November 3 gubernatorial election.
The campaign video features Acton’s estranged mother, bringing a sensitive family relationship into the increasingly contentious race for Ohio governor.
Despite the criticism, Ramaswamy has continued airing the advertisement, signalling that his campaign intends to maintain its approach.
The controversy has drawn attention to the use of personal family matters in political advertising and raised questions about the boundaries of campaign attacks.
The newspaper reported that the advertisement, apparently intended to damage Acton’s candidacy, had instead generated criticism directed at Ramaswamy.
The dispute comes as both candidates intensify their campaigns ahead of the election.
Further reporting by Reuters confirms that Ramaswamy’s campaign committed $4 million to promoting the advertisement. Vice President JD Vance defended the campaign, while Acton’s brother condemned the use of her childhood abuse allegations in political advertising.
