EFCC: Court order not required for 72-hour account restriction

The EFCC has defended its temporary restriction on an Osun State Government account as lawful, rejecting claims it needed a court order, according to AllAfrica. Spokesperson Wilson Uwujaren told Arise Television the action targeted only one account after suspicious transfers to multiple entities were observed.

He cited Section 34 of the EFCC Act and Section 7(6) of the Money Laundering Act as legal backing, noting the restriction can last 72 hours before requiring judicial approval. The EFCC has probed Osun since March over alleged mismanagement of about N11 billion in funds.
