Osun: EFCC can freeze FG, state govt accounts – Falana
Senior lawyer Femi Falana has declared that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission acted within the law by freezing Osun State Government’s account, citing a 2022 Court of Appeal judgment affirming the EFCC’s power to place a Post-No-Debit restriction on state government accounts for up to 72 hours before obtaining a court order.
“As far as the law is concerned, the EFCC has not acted illegally,” Falana said, according to Daily Post, referencing the Attorney-General of Benue State versus EFCC case and a landmark 2024 Supreme Court judgment involving Kogi State, which affirmed federal agencies’ powers to investigate and freeze accounts of any tier of government in Nigeria.
